Welcome to Mainly Music at St Peter’s
We meet each TUESDAY of the primary school terms
Session ONE: 9.50 – 10.30 is aimed at children who are confident walkers (from about 18 months - five years)
Session TWO: 11.00 – 11.30 is aimed at younger children
10.30: Shared morning Tea for people of both sessions. If you have children who fit into each age range then you are invited to come to the most convenient session.
We try to keep each sessions to no more than 25 families so there is currently a waiting list – please phone 09-636.6368 to secure a place.
The aim of mainly music is to provide an environment where young children develop skills to enhance their early education, through the use of music, rhythm, rhyme, and other music related activities with the participation of a parent or primary caregiver – mums, dads, grandparents, nannies: all are welcome.
Each week, parents and caregivers bring their children for a thirty-minute session of music, rhyme, movement, listening and more. The adults are encouraged to participate in the session as this encourages the children to enter into the actions and singing.
Our aim is that both children and care-giver will have fun and enjoy the shared music experience.
The programmes provide an opportunity for parents / caregivers to meet and network with other families with young children in this community. Children benefit from the music and movement, which helps prepare them for school. Music is a vital part of developing a child's skills: it assists with co-ordination, fine motor movements, large motor movements, social interaction, appreciation of music and musical styles, and language development.
Some of our current favourite songs are:
The ants go marching one by one, hurrah, hurrah.
The ants go marching one by one, hurrah, hurrah.
The ants go marching one by one,
The little one stops to suck his thumb
And they all go marching
Up the drain and down the drain
And under the door to get out of the rain …
Come and sing and dance with us SOON:
Mainly Music is the MOST fun you can have on a Tuesday morning!
